Facility data
The facility, permit, and compliance records shown on this site are public regulatory data published by the U.S. EPA (ECHO Exporter and RCRAInfo), supplemented by commercial business listings (Google Places) for the categories RCRA doesn't cover. This is not personal information about site visitors — see Methodology for how it's compiled.
What we collect, and why
US Waste Index uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic (which pages get visited, roughly how many people, which state/category combinations get searched) — no account is required to browse the site, and we don't attempt to identify individual visitors from it. Beyond that, we only collect what you submit directly:
- Get Quotes: when you submit the quote-request form, we collect your name, email, phone (optional), the waste category, state/city, estimated volume, frequency, urgency, and any notes you add. This is used to identify waste-service providers who match your request and to follow up with you at the contact info you give us — see "Sharing with providers" below.
- Claiming a listing: if you claim a facility profile, we collect your name and email (to establish who submitted the claim) plus whatever contact info, description, website, logo, and services you choose to publish on that profile.
- Contact: anything you send us for a data correction, licensing question, or general inquiry.
Sharing with providers
When you submit a quote request, the details you provide (your contact info and the request itself) may be shared with waste-service providers relevant to your category and location, so they can respond to you directly. We don't sell this information, and we don't share it for purposes unrelated to fulfilling your request.
Marketing consent vs. quote consent
Submitting the quote-request form is consent for us — and providers we route your request to — to contact you about that specific request. The separate "it's okay to contact me about other services" checkbox on that form is optional and governs whether we may contact you about things beyond your original request. Leaving it unchecked doesn't affect whether your quote request itself gets fulfilled.
Claimed listings
If you claim a facility profile, the description, contact details, and services you submit are stored to display on that profile. Underlying regulatory data (permits, violations, evaluations) is never affected by a claim and stays sourced solely from EPA.
Retention and deletion
We keep quote requests and claim submissions for as long as needed to fulfill the request or maintain the listing, and for a reasonable period afterward for our own business records. You can ask us to delete personal information you've submitted (a quote request, or contact details on a claimed profile) at any time — see Contact below. Deleting a claim's contact details doesn't affect the underlying EPA regulatory record, which we don't control and can't delete.
Service providers and processors
We use a small number of infrastructure and analytics vendors to run the Site: Cloudflare (hosting and content delivery), Turso (the database that stores quote and claim submissions), and Google Analytics (aggregate traffic analytics, described above). We don't use a payment processor today — the Site doesn't charge buyers or process payments.
Security
Data is transmitted over HTTPS. Submitted data is stored in a hosted database that isn't publicly readable, and access is limited to operating the Site. No online system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security of information you submit.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or request deletion of personal information we hold about you, or to opt out of certain sharing. To exercise any of these rights, or if you have questions about how your information is handled, contact us below and we'll respond.
Third-party links
Facility pages link out to EPA ECHO for the underlying regulatory record, and claimed listings may link to a provider's own website. We aren't responsible for the privacy practices of external sites we link to.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page as the site changes. The "last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
